CAMPING OUT BACK- THE EXPERIENCE

Relax to the sound of running water and birds or silence depending on whether you chose a lush valley retreat or mountain top/s view.

‘Camping Out Back’ is designed let you experience living in the New Zealand bush. We do not do specific hunting or fishing safaris in search of the biggest critter but are happy to take you for a look for an animal or take you out for a fish depending on the opportunities and your interests.

Here's an example of what we do.

FATHER/SON TRIP

Mike wanted to share a bush experience with his son. In discussion with him, he was keen to take his son (Bruce) into the bush for a few days to experience camping well away from a road end and if possible, go for a hunt.

Day One started with rifle practice at 25m and then 100m. Once both were comfortable with the rifle, we went looking for a goat. After they had stalked and shot an animal each we set off to do the final packing and fly into the hills.

After a 15 minute flight we set up camp in a remote river, had a brew and a feed and waited till the time was right to stalk the river flats.

By 8.00 pm Stuart had shot a spiker for meat and returned to camp. Mike and his son continued hunting and just on dark, after stalking it together, Bruce shot his first deer, a young stag in velvet, in good condition – a good eater; the end to a great day.

The next morning we dressed the animal and set in to relax for the next few days until the helicopter was due to come and fly us out.

There were plenty of trout in the water that a good fisherman might catch on a fly. The boys were happy just to look at them.

Eels proved a source of interest and entertainment and one added to the menu of venison fillet steak. Due to high wind speeds on the tops the helicopter had to delay pick up by a day – an excellent opportunity for the ‘young fella’ to learn ‘not to worry about what you can not change’ and finish a couple of books.

Client comment.
"I usually only take time off between Christmas and New Year but we are coming back soon for another trip – this time, with our own rifle and an extra book."
